Sharing 2014: International Conference on Ignatian Spirituality

The conference was organized by Xavier House Hong Kong and the topic was “An Ignatian Pilgrimage: From Personal Interiority to Shared Apostolic Vision.”  It was held at School Hall of Wahyan College Hong Kong on November 28 – 1 December 2014.   560 delegates from several countries attended the conference e.g. from Hong Kong, mainland China, Macau, The Philippines, Australia and Taiwan.
There was simultaneous translation into Putonghua and Cantonese for the delegates.  Several workshops were given in Putonghua.

There were two plenary sessions in the morning, 9 or 11 selection workshops and Mass in the afternoon besides morning prayer, examen, personal reflection or spiritual conversation.

The topic for the first day plenary session was “St. Ignatius as a Pilgrim of Supreme Reality,” which was given by Fr. Javier Melloni, S.J.  I attended the workshop on "Tasting the First Spiritual Exercise," which was given by The Australian National FSE Team.  Cardinal John Tong was the main celebrant for the opening Mass.

The topic for the second day plenary session was “The Spirit in the time: History of Ignatian Spirituality,” which was given by Fr. Jose Garcia, S.J.  I didn’t attend the second day conference as our community had a memorial mass for Sr. Rose Duschesne, MM, Sr. Agnes Cazale, MM, Sr. Agnes Christine, MM, Sr. Elizabeth Lee, MM and Sr. Bernadine Remedios, MM.  The Mass was celebrated by Fr. Bill Galvin, MM followed by community dinner.

The topic for the third day plenary session was “Ignatian Spirituality as a Way of Living for All,” which was given By Fr. Cecil Azzopardi, SJ followed by Dr. Marlene Marburg.  I had a chance to talk with Fr. Michael Hansen, SJ who adapted the First Spiritual Exercise in his book “the First Spiritual Exercise: Four Guided Retreats” during lunch time.  He even gave the book as a gift.  I attended the workshop “Transformational Leadership and the Two Standards and Discernment,” which was given by Mrs. Bernadette Miles. 

The topic for the last day plenary session was “Ignatian Legacy: The Dynamic of Discernment,” which was given by Fr. Monty Williams, SJ followed by Mrs. Bernadette Miles.  There was closing forum to answer the questions from the delegates after lunch.  I had a chance to talk with Fr. Cecil Azzopardi, SJ after the closing forum.       

Several alumnae of Maryknoll Chinese Sisters Program attended this conference too.  It was a very well organized conference and a very good time for me to prepare for Advent Season.  Here is the link about the conference:  http://xavier.ignatian.net/html/ic2014/

Saya bekerja di Hongkong dan mendapatkan buklet Dokter Yesus dari Gereja Hati Kudus Yesus Causeway Bay. Saya mengalami gangguan telinga berdenging.  Pada awalnya saya baca dan renungkan buklet Dokter Yesus, setelah itu saya pegang telinga saya dan berdoa Bapa Kami dan Aku Percaya.  Pada malam pertama masih sakit dan pada malam kedua mukjisat benar-benar saya alami, saya sembuh sampai saat ini.  Terima kasih Dokter Yesus. Sharing: Home Visit 2014

As there was a family matter, I went to hometown, Jombang, on Oct 10, 2014.  For sure, I am grateful to my community that I could spend my vacation and annual retreat in Indonesia this year.

  I had a chance to meet my family, relatives and friend in Madiun, Sidoarjo, Mojosari and Tulungagung.  I also had a chance to meet several friends at Museum Gallery Misi Surabaya http://museummisi.org/.

I went to the Post Graduate Seminary of the Vincentian Fathers in Malang on Oct 17 – 25 for my annual retreat.  I attended the daily Eucharist with the seminarians and said the morning and evening prayer privately.  I had a chance to share a little bit about my vocation journey and Maryknoll Sisters including my pink habit with the seminarians as I had delicious meals, three times rice meals, with them. 

            Prof. Dr. Armada Riyanto, CM, retreat master, gave reflection on Jn 4: 1- 30 Jesus Talks with a Samaritan Woman, Gn 22: 1-19  Abraham tested, Lk 5: 1-11 Jesus Calls His First Disciples, Ex 3: 1 – 4: 17 Moses at the Burning Bush, Jn 17: 1 -26 Jesus Prays for His Disciples, Lk 24: 13-35 The Road to Emmaus.  Fr. Armada also asked me to reflect on part of the books “Sahabat-sahabat Tuhan dan Orang Miskin (=Friends of God and the Poor),” “Interreligious Dialogue and Formation” and “Menjadi-Mencintai (=Being-Loving).”   I couldn’t hold my tears when I read personalized Jn 17: 1-26.   I attended the study day at School of Philosophy and Theology Widya Sasana Malang on Oct 25 with the theme “Dimana Letak Kebahagiaan (=Where is Happiness)?"  It was presented from Philosophical, Biblical, Historical and Empirical views and was very well attended by the priests, sisters, seminarians, and lay people from several cities nearby.  I also reflected this topic during the retreat, and my answer is in doing God’s will so I am convinced, again, to continue my vocation journey, as a Maryknoll Sister.   

            The seminarians prepared a birthday celebration for one of the seminarians and a farewell for me by having second dinner on Oct 24.  They bought fried duck and cooked fettuccine besides giving me a pink pig toy as a farewell gift.        

It’s really a blessing to be home at this time, to experience again God’s presence in my life through my family, relatives, and friends, and especially the annual retreat.
