Easter Letter 2019

"The Easter eggs symbolizes our ability to break out of the hardened, protective shell we've surrounded ourselves with that limits our thoughts and beliefs. As we break open our hearts and minds we discover a transformation to new, life enhancing thoughts and beliefs."  Siobhan Shaw

Happy Easter! Selamat Hari Raya Paskah! 复活节快乐!
May the Risen Christ continue to bless us with joy and peace!

How was your Easter celebration?  Hope this letter finds you joyful and healthy.
Please find below my sharing as my Easter letter.
There was long procession from ground floor to Holy Family Church at second floor of the building on Palm Sunday morning mass.
The Church was full for the Holy Thursday Mass.  After the Mass, there was time for private adoration in the Church then the Blessed Sacrament was reserved at the temporary small chapel.  It was the meeting room, which was cleared up and decorated to reserve the Blessed Sacrament.  Several parishioners stayed overnight.
Several other parishioners come and go for adoration in front of the Blessed Sacrament since early Friday morning.  It is a customs in mainland not to eat breakfast for Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.  The Stations of the Cross was held at 2.00 p.m. followed by Liturgy of the Word, veneration of the Cross, and Holy Communion.  The Blessed Sacrament was returned to the temporary small chapel after Holy Communion and the altar was stripped again.  Several parishioners still come and go for adoration till Saturday afternoon.  I just realized that several parishioners don’t eat meat on Holy Week.
Four persons, adults and babies, were baptized during Easter Vigil Mass. Fr. Lu asked me to taught one of the candidates for baptism around one a half hour before the Mass began.  I didn’t agree for her baptism but it went on.  When the Fr. Lu sprinkled the holy water, the parishioners hold the snacks or fruits or candies up to get the blessing.  Everyone got an Easter egg and every family can get a bottle of holy water as it’s the time to get a new holy water. There were around 700-800 parishioners attended the Mass
The parishioners got another Easter egg during Easter Sunday Mass.  There were around 600-700 parishioners attended the Mass.  Several youth invited both Fr. Lu and I for lunch followed by making a short video for two volunteers, who will marry in her hometown.
That’s all about my Easter with parishioners of Holy Family Church Shenzhen.  It was a moving, peaceful and joyful Easter celebration.
Now, several short updates about the first four month of 2019.

Sharing: 2019 Lenten Retreat of Holy Family Church

Fr. Lu organized Lenten Retreat for parishioners at Salesian Retreat House Cheung Chau island on April 8-11, 2019.  There were 24 parishioners attended the retreat.

Fr. Lu asked Mr. He, who studied at Leuven University and teaches Bible classes at Holy Family Church when he comes back from Europe once a year, to lead the retreat.  Mr. He asked me to be the spiritual companion for the participants and gave a presentation so I prepared a reflection on John 13: 4-17 about Jesus Washes His Disciples Feet.

The parishioners were grateful to have the opportunity to attend the retreat.  Several parishioners and I went to Our Lady of Fatima Church before leaving Cheung Chau island.  Chaozhou people has the tradition to have Chaozhou Mass on the third day of Chinese New Year at this Church.

Sharing: Apr 2019 Guangzhou O2O Gathering

When we made the first announcement for the youth gathering at Holy Family Church, I specifically mentioned single Catholics 18-35 years old but several volunteers were not comfortable with “single” because they don’t want to organized a match maker gathering.  Since then, the youth gathering of  Holy Family Church are opened for both married and single Catholics even welcome non Catholics.  One of the volunteers Mr. Dai several years ago had an idea to collect database of single Catholics but Fr. Lu didn’t support it.  Mr. Dai finally made a group of single Catholics by his own.
Several parishioners asked Fr. Xu and me, and also I am sure to other priests and sisters, to find boyfriend/girlfriend for their son/daughter so early this year Fr. Xu asked me if we can organize a single Catholics gathering but it was pending.

My concern about the need to find Catholics boyfriend/girlfriend led me to start a single Catholics group chatting 在主内相识,从你我做起on Feb 27, 2019.  It has around 130 members from several cities when I organized the first Online to Offline (O2O) Gathering in Guangzhou on April 7, 2019.  Several persons forwarded my announcement about this group chatting to their group chatting so the membership is growing quite fast.   I asked two men and two women of the members from Shenzhen to help take care the group e.g. monitoring the conversation and set up the rules for the group.
There were 20 youth attending the O2O gathering.  One of the Guangzhou members Ms. Chen and the leader of Cathedral youth group Mr. Zhang helped to prepare the logistics.  Several members from Shenzhen attended this gathering.
I led gathering by presenting the first and second habits of  “8 Habits of Highly Effective People” to introduce themselves and shared their soul mates criteria besides give presentation about Love.
They are grateful for the gathering as they know each other, get the opportunity to learn and share and looking forward for the next gathering in Shenzhen.  There are 141 members as for today.  It’s another opportunity to reach out to more youth in mainland as my wish.
Mr. Dai, who moved to his town several years ago, edited my announcement about the single Catholics group chatting for his own group chatting with the help of two priests.
I stayed with my senior high school boarding mate and had a chance to meet Fr. Chen and visit our youth volunteer Ms. Li besides attending the Mass at Shamian Church.
Since several members dont want to be known to be member of a single group so I will not upload our pictures.

Sharing: Mar 2019 Youth Gathering of Holy Family Church

Several volunteers and I organized the youth gathering on Mar 28--31, 2019 at Don Bosco Youth Center http://www.donboscocamp.org.hk/.   There were 32 participants for this youth gathering excluding Fr. Lu and I.  I went to the center with several youth before the opening and left for the a course on Saturday morning and back on Sunday morning.  Fr. Lu arrived in the evening and  left Saturday afternoon.
The participants appreciate the activities very much especially as it was very different with the activities in their hometown.
